Health Physicist 2 ($96,100 - $159,000) The Radiation Protection Division has a need for an operational Health Physicists (HP) supporting LANL programs and projects at Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) on the backshift in the Technical Area (TA) 55 deployed Health Physics group. Reporting to the RP-TA55 Radiation Protection Manager, the operational HP is responsible for ensuring the implementation of the Radiation Protection (RP) program while supporting work execution. Executing all manners of operational health physics/radiation safety, the HP2 will be able to perform most matters of operational health physics/radiation safety independently and have the skills set and abilities to act as the lead person or technical adviser on small to medium projects related to radiation protection. Responsibilities will include: investigating radiation hazards in the full range of RP assignments; assisting in developing and implementing metrics to measure the effectiveness of the operational RP Program; assisting in developing, implementing and evaluating administrative and engineering controls to protect Laboratory personnel from radiological hazards; assisting in developing and implementing monitoring programs to measure the buildup of radioactive materials in the workplace; measuring the integrity of radiological engineering controls; performing Radiological Document Reviews (RDRs) and procedure development; and help ensure that RP concepts and policies are incorporated into Laboratory designs to protect workers, the public and the environment. Health Physicist 3 ($105,700 – $176,400) In addition to what was outlined at the lower level, the Health Physicist 3 will have: · Advance knowledge of Health Physics principles, theories, concepts, and techniques. • Advanced knowledge of operational Health Physics including contamination control, external exposure control, airborne radioactivity monitoring. • Advanced experience with the development and implementation of programs to meet 10 CFR 835, 49 CFR and part 20 requirements • Ability to conceptualize and communicate fundamental elements of radiological safety/protection to both technical and non-technical personnel. • Ability to prepare and present radiological safety/protection reports • Experience responding to radiological incidents and emergencies. | | | | | | What You Need Minimum Job Requirements: Demonstrated experience with a variety of radiological controls and the surveillance of related safety measures and requirements. Working knowledge of radiological safety policies, practices, and procedures. Working knowledge of legal requirements and environmental impacts affecting radiological safety/protection. Demonstrated experience and demonstrated skill in conducting research, investigating alternative solutions, and recommending solutions on problems affecting radiological safety/protection. Additional Job Requirements for Health Physicist 3: In addition to the requirements outlined above, qualification at the higher level requires: TSQP qualified. Extensive problem solving skills, analytical skills and the ability to execute special assignments or procedure development consistent with radiation protection regulatory drivers. Extensive knowledge and experience responding to radiological incidents and emergencies. Skill to conceptualize and communicate major elements of radiation control procedures to both technical and non- technical personnel.
Training/Certifications: Education/Experience at lower level: Position requires a Bachelor’s Degree in Health Physics, Nuclear Engineering, Physical Science, and 2 years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation. Education/Experience at higher level Position requires a Bachelor’s Degree in Health Physics, Nuclear Engineering, Physical Science, and 5 years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation.
Desired Qualifications: Working knowledge of actinide processing health physics. Working knowledge of air monitoring and contamination control, including containment tents and glove bags. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Professional Certification (NRRPT, CHP). RWP authority. Active Q clearance.
