The Intelligence and Space Research (ISR) Division seeks a highly motivated, dynamic engineering leader with expertise and experience in R&D, production, and deployment of complex research and national security instrumentation into extreme environments such as space. As Group Leader of the ISR-4 Space Electronics and Signal Processing Group (ISR-4), you will lead and manage the technical work performed in the Group and serve as a highly collaborative member of ISR Division leadership team. You will help develop a strategic vision for the Group’s future and be responsible for implementing and achieving that vision, including identifying and nurturing the key engineering capabilities and collaboration opportunities; fostering a culture of continuous learning, creativity, and innovation; developing and sustaining an expert workforce that is recognized as a unique national resource; and mentoring, coaching, and building effective teams within and beyond ISR-4.
You will also provide administrative and operational oversight for the following areas: risk identification, evaluation and management (technical, programmatic, and organizational); the environment, safety, security, and health envelope of the workplace, including implementing Human Performance Improvement principles and Safe Conduct of Research Principles; hiring and onboarding processes of new staff; performance assessments and salary management of staff; strategic workforce planning and development, including providing growth opportunities and ensuring recognition of individuals and teams; evaluating and reporting of financial status and forecast of personnel on projects; development and support of group facilities and infrastructure; and traveling in support of recruiting, workforce development, and customer/ partner engagement.
The ISR-4 Space Electronics and Signal Processing Group has approximately 50 staff members that span research, development, and production of state-of-the-art, custom electronic systems for detection and measurement for scientific research and national security applications. The ISR-4 R&D approach emphasizes innovative, high-quality, reliable instruments with long lifespan operations in high-radiation, extreme temperature and pressure ranges, and caustic-fluid environments. Specific ISR-4 technical focus areas include electrical and computer engineering, radiation-hardened/radiation-tolerant circuit design, custom miniaturized electronics, analog and digital signal processing, antenna design, and electronics and sensing systems for satellites. Over the last 15 years, ISR-4 has developed electronic and data processing systems for more than 400 space instruments from concept to flight, including the ChemCam and SuperCam experiments on NASA’s Mars Curiosity and Perseverance rovers; a growing portfolio of cubesats and payloads for NASA, NNSA, and the DoD; and NNSA payloads for the U.S. Nuclear Detonation and Detection System (USNDS) for nuclear treaty verification.

Ability to lead and manage development, deployment, and exploitation of systems for space science and/or space-based national security missions.
