What You Will Do

This position will be filled at either Operator 4/ 5 level, depending on the skills of the selected candidate.  Additional job responsibilities (outlined below) will be assigned if the candidate is hired at the higher level.

The selected candidate will report to the CWF-WF Manufacturing Manager serving as the primary interface between the tenant organizations, support services subcontractors and FOD to review and implement DOE O 426.2, Conduct of Operations.

The CWF-WF organization is responsible for facility operations at Transuranic Waste Facility (TWF) and Radioassay and Nondestructive Testing (RANT) facility.  TWF supports storage, characterization, and intra-site shipping of transuranic (TRU) waste.  TWF is part of a comprehensive, long-term strategy to consolidate hazardous and radioactive waste operations into a smaller area that can operate safely, securely, and effectively for the foreseeable future.  The RANT facility is a shipping facility site for transuranic waste. Waste Isolation Pilot Plan (WIPP) certified TRU waste containers are assembled into payloads and loaded into TRU package transporter Type B packages for shipment to WIPP. 

Operator 4 (65,900 -110,300)

Fully qualified, experienced operator, with significant subject matter expertise in related or similar facilities, functional areas, or fields. Operates and monitors critical safety systems according to operating instructions. Responsible for safe execution of technical safety requirement surveillances or surveillances required to meet safety / authorization basis requirements. Performs technical tasks in support of operations, maintenance, science or engineering activities. Provides direct support in operations, specification, construction, and/or design of facility mechanical, electrical, and/or chemical systems. Checks and inspects operation and maintenance against predetermined standards. Follows process sheets or written / verbal directions. Observes equipment and control panels for operator messages or error indicators. Sets up and runs diagnostic test and reacts appropriately to the messages and reports errors or machine malfunctions as required. May work with and be responsible for multiple systems.

Operator 5 ($83,900 - $136,600)

Technical Knowledge

Extensive knowledge of typical facility electrical and mechanical systems, sub-systems and components. Ability to read and understand engineering instructions, drawings, layouts, and other related specifications. Experience and skill to prioritize alarm responses based on evaluation of available data. Knowledge and experience in a wide variety of facility operations and maintenance activities

Safety

Extensive understanding of and ability to identify work hazards, safety practices, operating configuration. Experience with lock-out/tag-out policies and procedures and execution.

Attention to Detail

Extensive experience with following detailed procedures, documenting actions and logs of activities related to facility operations

Personal Leadership

Extensive ability to perform assigned tasks with minimal supervision based on demonstrated proficiency.

Communication Skills

Excellent interpersonal, written & verbal communication skills. Experience working with programmatic customers to achieve laboratory goals.

Procedure Writing

Extensive experience developing and revising complex operational procedures.

Facility Operations/Maintenance activities 

Extensive experience and understanding of the following aspects of equipment operations:

• Procedure compliance
• Hazard identification and analysis
• Configuration management
• Formal work control processes
• Performance and review of operator rounds and inspections
• Tracking employee training/qualification

Education/Experience at Operator 4 level: Requires a relevant Associates Degree and 5 years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation.

Education/Experience at Operator 5 level: Requires an Associate’s Degree in a relevant field and 7 years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation. At this level, additional training and certification, may be expected.

Desired Qualifications:

• Extensive knowledge with nuclear criticality safety, material control and accountability, radiological protection, safety basis compliance, waste minimization and waste management.
• Extensive knowledge of managing RCRA waste storage areas including knowledge of chemical storage, segregation, and handling requirements.
• Demonstrated ability to learn and implement DOE orders and LANL procedures pertinent to Nuclear Facility operations

Work Location: The work location for this position is onsite and located in Los Alamos, NM. All work locations are at the discretion of management.

Position commitment:  Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. Clearance:  Q (Position will be cleared to this level).  Selected applicants will be subject to a background investigation conducted by or on behalf of the Federal Government, and must meet eligibility requirements* for access to classified matter. This position requires a Q clearance. and obtaining such clearance requires US Citizenship except in extremely rare circumstances. Dependent upon the position, additional authorization to access classified information may be required, which may or may not be available to dual citizens.  Receipt of a Q clearance and additional access authorization ultimately is a decision of the Federal Government and not of Triad.

*Eligibility requirements:  To obtain a clearance, an individual must be at least 18 years of age; U.S. citizenship is required except in very limited circumstances. See DOE Order 472.2 for additional information.

426.2: This position is subject to DOE Order 426.2, Personnel Selection, Training, and Qualification Requirements for DOE Nuclear Facilities, which establishes entry-level requirements to ensure candidates selected for specific positions can successfully perform the requirements of the job.
