The BAS Controls Engineer is a member of the Building Automation Systems and Data Acquisition team which includes a small dynamic team of controls engineers, computer scientists, IT, networking, and electronics and field technicians. These team members work closely with and support the Sustainability Program and Operations goals for energy savings through the ongoing maintenance and operation of the building automation systems and building performance analytics. In addition, the team members also provide state of the art technical solutions and support for remote monitoring, data collection, system analysis and design improvements, and dashboarding. A BAS Engineer 1 will carry out the following: Provide engineering field support, and expertise for BAS used in the daily operations and control of facility HVAC at LANL. Insure safe, reliable, and energy efficient operations and maintenance for all BAS (Trane, Automated Logic, and Alerton) installed campus wide. Program BAS databases and sequences of operation, monitor, troubleshoot and tune control systems resulting in optimized building equipment operation, energy utilization, indoor air quality and comfort. Modify programming and graphics as necessary. Assist HVAC field and maintenance technicians in the installation, repair and replacement of various components or systems. Provide advanced troubleshooting of comfort, energy, indoor air quality, and safety concerns related to HVAC systems and controls. Perform design review and provide input on new building automation controls projects that include laboratories, offices, and mixed uses. Work with Project Management, Construction, outside contractors, consultants, and controls vendors to install, network, import controls and sensor data points into the fault detection and diagnostics (SkySpark) software platform for control systems and field device commissioning. Manage BAS controls and equipment issues through the SkySpark analytics system and workflow for documenting maintenance request. Review and analyze data from electrical, natural gas and water meter readings and the building automation systems and verify accuracy. Conduct statistical analysis and create predictive models of building energy and water usage. Develop energy baselines and track building performance, and evaluate trends to inform energy audits and support capital investment decisions. Remain current with state of the art hardware, software, and technology. Investigate and recommend innovative engineering solutions to improve system operations, maintenance, and security. Establish, document, and maintain troubleshooting and maintenance procedures for the recurring and unscheduled maintenance of HVAC systems.

Knowledge of information technology architecture and communications networks for industrial control systems, including familiarity with BACnet, Modbus, MSTP, ARCNET protocols Experience either with energy and HVAC audits or commissioning work. Bonus points for experience with microcontrollers, DIY electronic projects
