Detonator Production (DP) Division is the premier Production Agency (PA) assigned to produce WR (War Reserve) detonators for the Nation’s nuclear stockpile security mission. The Division is part of LANL’s Weapons Production Directorate. DP is comprised of a team of motivated, highly skilled technical and operational support staff working in an integrated format. The organization is centered on high-rigor manufacturing operations to produce precision, safe and reliable WR products. DP partners closely with customers and stakeholders such as NNSA (National Nuclear Security Administration), Design Agencies (LANL, Sandia, and Livermore), and LANL program management orgs to deliver on challenging National security objectives. DP upholds vigorous teamwork, personal integrity, respectful workplace, and continuous improvement in operations, technical excellence, safety and security. Primary work scope includes, but is not limited to: Ensuring safety and security compliance, maintaining required training, adhering to laboratory policies, programs, procedures and practices. Responsibility for the fabrication, inspection, and testing of War Reserve and experimental detonator components and subcomponents. Collaboration with Product Engineers, other Process Engineers, Quality Engineers, and Production Technicians to develop solutions to complex manufacturing problems, implement new technologies, improve production cycle times, and maximize production yield rates. Coordinating equipment maintenance and repair services to ensure production equipment is operating within required guidelines and specifications. Completely review and distill design requirements into manufacturing processes that are effectively documented such that quality evidence is completely and accurately collected to support product verification. This is done by collaborating directly with manufacturing technicians, Quality Engineers and Product Engineers.
| | | | | | What You Need Minimum Job Requirements: Technical - Proven experience applying engineering principles, methods, and tools to complex problems. Can effectively apply technology, fixtures, and automation to produce the required result in the most efficient and repeatable way possible. Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing Principles. Leadership - Demonstrated ability to provide technical leadership in the day-to-day process of system startup & operation, tooling setup, in-process performance monitoring, component inspection, and engineering decision-making. Analytical – Use data to identify areas of poor quality or efficiency and collaborate with all stakeholders to develop and implement improvements to make the manufacturing processes more robust. Communication – Ability to effectively communicate and collaborate with all levels of the department. Can effectively explain equipment usage and training processes to manufacturing technicians both verbally and through formal written documentation. Quality - Demonstrated experience in monitoring process performance using Statistical Process Control, Six Sigma, and other methods. Interpretation of Drawings - Proficiency in interpreting and translating complex design agency specifications and engineering drawings. Education/Experience: Position requires a Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering from an ABET accredited institution related to the occupation. Up to 2 years of related experience may be desired. Desired Qualifications: Weapons - Knowledge of the United States nuclear weapons programs, designs, and engineering. Specific Skills - Understanding of photo-imaging methods techniques and circuit lamination methods. Ability to understand and modify Gerber files and G-Code. Working knowledge of ASME Y14.5, Dimensioning and Tolerances. Working proficiency with direct or parametric engineering modeling software (e.g., CREO, SolidWorks, ANSYS, and AutoCAD). General understanding of various metal joining techniques including soldering and welding. Clearance – Active, ability to reinstate, or ability to obtain a Department of Energy “Q” clearance. Location: This position will be located in Los Alamos, NM.
