| Job Title | | Postdoctoral Research Associate - Probing Ultrafast Structural and Electronic Phase Transitions at X-ray Free Electron Laser Sources | | | | Location | | Los Alamos, NM, US | | | | Organization Name | | MPA-CINT/Center For Integrated Nanotechnologies | | | | Minimum Salary | | | | | | Maximum Salary | | | | | | | | What You Will Do We are seeking outstanding candidates to fill a postdoctoral opening at the Laboratory for Ultrafast Materials and Optical Science (LUMOS), within the Center for Integrated Nanotechnologies (CINT) at Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL). This position is part of a collaboration between LANL, and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), where a successful candidate will be jointly supervised by principal investigators at both institutions. This position will focus on ultrafast optical, terahertz, and X-ray spectroscopy of quantum materials, with a particular emphasis on using intense terahertz pulses to drive structural and electronic phase transitions within these materials. Systems of interest include strongly correlated electron systems, topological materials, multiferroics and 2D van der Waals systems. On-site experimental facilities include several amplified femtosecond laser systems with wavelengths tunable from soft X-ray to THz frequencies, high field superconducting magnets, scanning probe microscopy setups, and an angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy system. Additional experiments will also be performed at national user facilities, such as the Advanced Photon Source and the Linac Coherent Light Source. A successful candidate will be located at the LUMOS labs in Los Alamos but can expect frequent travel to user facilities and MIT. | | | | | | What You Need Minimum Job Requirements: · Expertise in one or more of the following areas: o Ultrafast optical spectroscopy o High field THz spectroscopy o Time-resolved x-ray diffraction and scattering o Time-resolved x-ray absorption spectroscopy o Strong background in condensed matter physics. · Excellent oral and written communication skills.
