Successful candidates will be expected to conduct exceptional research in one of the following areas: - Theoretical modeling of optical and photonic properties in low-dimensional hybrid nanoscale semiconductor heterostructures, with a focus on enhancements driven by the surrounding dielectric environment, including photonic and plasmonic cavities, photonic crystals, and waveguides.
- Electronic structure theory and ab initio molecular dynamics of electronic/excitonic and phonon structures in low-dimensional materials for photonic and microelectronic applications, enhanced by data science-based approaches.
The successful candidate will have the opportunity to engage with a dynamic, multidisciplinary experimental and theoretical research team that bridges fundamental science with applications. Education/Experience: Ph.D. in theoretical/computational Physics, Chemistry, Optics/Photonics, Materials Science, Computer Science, or related area completed within the last 5 years or to be completed soon. - Demonstrated expertise in one of the following:
- Theoretical/computational optics and photonics.
- Experience in theory and modeling of optical properties of nanostructured semiconductors.
- Electronic structure theory and atomistic simulation of materials.
- Classical and ab initio molecular dynamics
- Machine learning methods in their application to materials and chemistry research
- The ability to work creatively and independently as well as learn and collaborate with experts as a part of a diverse multi-disciplinary team.
- Excellent communication and writing skills, as evidenced by publications, cover letter, and interview.
Desired Qualifications: - In addition to the minimum requirements, the following qualifications are desired, and preference will be given to candidates satisfying (at least one) of them:
- Experience in classical and/or quantum electrodynamic theory and modeling of photonic nanostructures.
- Experience in applying effective mass techniques and/or ab-initio computational techniques to evaluate optical properties of nano-structured semiconductors.
- Experience in running large-scale computational physics, chemistry, or materials science codes based on atomistic quantum-chemical approaches and/or molecular dynamics.
- Experience with High Performance Computing (HPC) or GPU computing.
- Experience in computer programming using modern computing languages.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and with minimum supervision.
- Willingness to work productively on multiple projects.
