As a Nuclear Facility Engineer 1, you will be assisting qualified criticality safety engineers and the programmatic operating staff in the conduct of criticality safety evaluations for new or proposed changes to existing fissionable material operations. You will be mentored and trained in NCS policies and practices, and most importantly, you will spend time in nuclear facilities in order to build strong working relationships with supervisors and teams that perform hands-on work, and you will support the implementation of the NCS Program for their fissionable material operations. This job is for you if you like challenges and puzzles, and if are interested in supporting key national security missions by performing technical analyses, proposing logical arguments, and investigating alternative solutions to problems affecting NCS. In addition, you will be assisting in the preparation and presentation of NCS technical reports both internal to LANL and external to the criticality safety community (e.g., American Nuclear Society, etc.). #ALDFONE | | | | | | What You Need Minimum Job Requirements: Basic knowledge of and experience with nuclear physics in general, criticality physics, and accident kinetics, more specifically Basic knowledge of and experience with criticality safety analysis tools such as MCNP or SCALE Demonstrated technical writing skills and good oral communication skills
Education/Experience: Position requires a Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering from an ABET-accredited college or university and 0 to 2 years of practical work experience necessary to perform the responsibilities outlined above. Advanced engineering or technical degree is highly desired. Current registration as an Engineer in Training (EIT) is highly desirable. Desired Qualifications: Qualified or training to qualify as a nuclear criticality safety engineer under a qualification program compliant with ANSI/ANS 8.26 Demonstrated support for operating organization personnel in the implementation of the LANL NCS Program Assisted operating organization personnel and qualified criticality safety analysts in criticality safety evaluations for new or proposed changes to existing significant quantity fissionable material operations Conducted research, investigated alternative solutions, and recommended solutions on problems affecting NCS Assisted in the preparation and presentation of NCS technical reports both internal to LANL and external to the criticality safety community (e.g. American Nuclear Society, etc.
