Scientific Software/Project Management:
For this role, you will need knowledge in scientific software development, project management or software engineering, and/or software quality. Much of this job will entail working with the scientific weapons code teams to understand their software development process to be able to perform software quality assurance assessments. This includes experience operating Windows and Unix computers.
Technical Communication:
You must have proficiency in technical writing including effective written and verbal communications skills with individuals, committees, and presentations across a wide variety of audiences.
Process Improvement Implementation:
At this level, you will need experience developing and implementing improvements based on risk assessments or other identified operational needs.
Classified Setting:
You will need experience working with classified documents and in classified systems, in a classified environment.
Data Analysis and Reporting:
Professional-level experience and demonstrated skill in conducting research, investigating alternative solutions, and recommending problem solutions.
Time Management:
For this role, you will need a demonstrated record of successfully completing projects on time and within budget through technical leadership, planning, execution and delivery.

Advanced Scientific Software/Project Management:
As a Scientist 3, you will need to keep up with software assurance requirements as new DOE/NNSA guidance is released. You must have advanced knowledge in software development principals, project management or software engineering, and software quality assurance practices. Experience implementing and maintaining project planning tools to enable the software quality assurance process. You will need experience defining deliverables at a project task level, including experience influencing organizational goals, projects and program strategies and directions. Consult with projects and guide project managers on implementation software quality assurance on their projects, scientific software applications, and software development processes.
Leadership:
You must have experience acting as a technical lead on a software development team with a deep understanding of systems design and extensive computer programming experience, and the ability to mentor junior staff. This includes experience leading technical decision-making within a project, making decisions and/or recommendations that influence the achievement of key programmatic objectives. You must have the ability to coordinate with peers from other Associate Laboratory Directorates to ensure that a unified approach is taken to implementing DOE and NNSA requirements
Clearance:
This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a DOE Q Clearance, which typically requires US Citizenship.
Education/Experience at Scientist 2: Position requires a Bachelor’s degree in a STEM field from an accredited college or university and 4 years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation.
Education/Experience at Scientist 3: Position requires a Master’s degree in a STEM field from an accredited college or university and 6 years of relevant experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation.
Desired Qualifications:
Business Software Systems:
It would be helpful experience coding in a programming language; experience with Atlassian tools for managing software development projects
LANL Weapon’s Knowledge:
It would be great if you had experience working within LANL’s Weapons Programs.
DOE Order knowledge:
It would be nice if you had knowledge in software quality including applied knowledge of DOE Order 414.1D.
Quality Assurance Execution:
Experience performing software quality assessments, surveillances, and/or audits.
LANL Business systems:
It would be helpful to have practical knowledge of LANL business systems, operational and work processes, administrative practices and procedures, and key Laboratory points of contact. Comprehensive understanding of LANL quality concepts, principles, and requirements.
