This position will be filled at either the Health and Safety Tec 3 or 4 level, depending on the skills of the selected candidate. Additional job responsibilities (outlined below) will be assigned if the candidate is hired at the higher level.
Health and Safety Tec 3 ($57,800 - $89,500) The Occupational Safety and Health – Industrial Safety and Hygiene (OSH-ISH) Industrial Hygiene group has multiple Health and Safety (H&S) Tech 3 positions available. These positions will report to either the Industrial Hygiene or the Safety Services Team Lead. The OSH-ISH group is a key component of the OSH Division, within the ESHQ Associate Level Directorate (ALD). The H&S Tec 3 will be responsible for supporting a variety of programs as needed within the OSH-ISH group. These programs may include respiratory protection, asbestos, equipment, excavations, injury & illness, and air monitoring. The selected candidates will be assigned to one or more programs-based OSH-ISH group needs. Candidates only need to have knowledge and skills in at least one of the program areas. Each candidate is required to promote safety, security, and quality in all operations; promote teamwork within and across the Laboratory; collaborate with other members of the Industrial Safety and Hygiene and Deployed Services, and promote a positive work environment while delivering exceptional customer service. This position will work an irregular schedule, working off shift or rotating schedule.
Health and Safety Tec 4 ($63,200 - $99,000) In addition to what is outlined at the lower level, at this level the Health & Safety Tech will be expected to have a comprehensive understanding of occupational safety and health fundamentals and be able to perform with minimal direction. Candidates will be able answer increasingly complex issues regarding the respective program they have been assigned.

Proficient in interfacing with database management systems.
Working knowledge of and experience with occupational safety and health hazards and the application of controls.
Working knowledge of federal, state, and local laws, regulations, policies, and procedures pertaining to occupational safety and health.
In-depth knowledge and skills in occupational safety and health.
Education/Experience at lower level: Position requires a High School Diploma and 2-4 years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Technical institute graduate or associate's degree may be preferred.
Education/Experience at higher level: Position requires a High School Diploma and 4-6 years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. At this level, additional training, certification, and/or education may be expected, including associate’s degrees and graduation from technical institutions.
Desired Qualifications:
Knowledge of occupational safety and health sampling equipment and media.
Experience performing industrial air monitoring and collecting bulk samples.
Capacity to comprehend DOE and LANL occupational safety and health requirements, as they pertain to programs.
Asbestos awareness regarding asbestos-containing materials and sampling techniques.
Awareness level experience with a respiratory protection program; to possibly include fit-testing, respirator selection and respirator protection program administration.
Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE “Q” level clearance.
Work Environment:
Work Location:The work location for this position is onsite and located in Los Alamos, NM. All work locations are at the discretion of management.
Note to Applicants: Position may require 24/7 coverage and therefore may require working a shift schedule.
Swing Shift: 3:00pm – 1:00am Monday through Thursday.
Shift Differential Pay: Nonexempt employees will receive shift differential pay when they are assigned by their manager to work a regular shift in which four or more hours are scheduled either before 8:00am or after 4:00pm. The rules governing the payment of shift differential are subject to change, including the amount of shift differential.
Swing: normally 4:00pm – 12 midnight- 12% of the basic hourly rate or the hourly equivalent rate of pay.
Position commitment:Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. If an employee has not served the time required, they may only apply for Laboratory jobs with the documented approval of their Division Leader. The position commitment for this position is 1 year.

Directive 206.2 - Employment with Triad requires a favorable decision by NNSA indicating employee is suitable under NNSA Supplemental Directive 206.2. No Clearance: Position does not require a security clearance. Selected candidates will be subject to drug testing and other pre-employment background checks.
New-Employment Drug Test: The Laboratory requires successful applicants to complete a new-employment drug test and maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing. Although New Mexico and other states have legalized the use of marijuana, use and possession of marijuana remain illegal under federal law. A positive drug test for marijuana will result in termination of employment, even if the use was pre-offer.
Regular position: Term status Laboratory employees applying for regular-status positions are converted to regular status.
