Fire Protection Engineers will work on dynamic teams to complete collaborative full loss prevention and compliance solutions through mentoring, AHJ reviews and leadership within the discipline to meet the needs of a diverse customer base. Fire Protection Engineer (Nuclear Facility Engineer) Level 3 ($115,500-$194,900) Fire Protection Engineer 3 (Within the Nuclear Facility Engineer Job Class) will work with nuclear and non-nuclear facility systems and accepted methods for mitigation of risk from fire. The successful candidate will be expected to perform the following duties of this position but are not necessarily limited to on-site fire protection system evaluations, performing Fire Hazard Analysis for life safety and loss prevention requirements for new and existing buildings, including building code compliance, occupancy determination, occupant load calculations, and egress analysis. Fire Protection Program implementation and ownership. The candidate will gain experience and education toward becoming a qualified FPE under DOE nuclear facility qualification requirements. Fire Protection Engineer (Nuclear Facility Engineer) Level 4 ($138,700-$240,500) In addition to what was outlined at the lower level, at this level Fire Protection Engineer (Nuclear Facility Engineer) 4 will work with nuclear and non-nuclear facility systems and accepted methods for mitigation of risk from fire. The successful candidate will be expected to perform the following duties of this position, but are not necessarily limited to independently performing Fire Hazards Analysis to prevent and/or reduce fire consequences, reduce loss of life and property impacts of fire, apply fire protection engineering fundamentals, research, fire hazard analyses to successfully implement the requirements of the fire protection program. To provide a leadership role in their area of responsibility in implementing the LANL fire protection program. Advanced knowledge of public and industrial fire protection programs and organizations, and must be familiar with industry technical codes, standards, and practices to ensure DOE liabilities are protected from inherent risks of fire. | | | | | | What You Need Minimum Job Requirements: Technical Expertise Advanced knowledge of and demonstrated technical experience in fire protection design, systems or project engineering: calculations, AHJ level plans examining and approvals, industry codes/standards, maintenance requirements, troubleshooting operations-based engineering problems, as well as the demonstrated ability to provide solutions for a wide range of complex fire loss prevention problems within nuclear, commercial and industrial facilities. Additional Job Requirements for Nuclear Facilities Engineer 4: In addition to the requirements outlined above, qualification at the higher level requires: Technical Expertise In addition to the above experience with Nuclear Quality Assurance, Safety Basis and other Nuclear Facility safety management programs. Demonstrated experience working with industry, regulatory, or Department of Energy/National Nuclear Security Administration (DOE/NNSA) complex codes, standards, and criteria pertinent to the nuclear facility engineering discipline and high hazard industrial sectors. Including Expert knowledge of fire protection engineering principles and procedures, guides, and administrative practices. Leadership Advanced knowledge of and experience contributing as a leader in engineering, through the proven ability to integrate and coordinate multi-facility deployed, cross-functional technical work activities. Experience in leadership as demonstrated through the proven ability to meet deliverables for senior management and lead projects while enhancing the technical and professional skills of junior engineers through active mentoring and training. Education/Experience at lower level: Position requires a Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering from an ABET-accredited college or university and a minimum of 6 practical work experience to the degree necessary to perform the responsibilities outlined above. Education/Experience at higher level: Position requires a Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering from an ABET-accredited college or university and a minimum of 12 years of practical work experience necessary to perform the responsibilities outlined above. Desired Qualifications: Demonstrated knowledge of DOE standards applicable to facility design, operation, and maintenance. Knowledge of Engineering principles and procedures, safety basis interaction, design guides, appropriate standards, and administrative practices as applied to DOE non-reactor nuclear and high hazard facilities. An advanced degree in a related field is preferred. Current registration as a Professional Engineer (PE) is highly desirable.
