The Associate Laboratory Directorate for Environment, Safety, Health, Quality, and Safeguards and Security (ALDESHQSS) has a need for operational Industrial Hygiene and Safety Professionals supporting LANL programs and projects at Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) through the LANL Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) Division. Reporting to the IHS Manager for Deployed Services, the Industrial Hygiene and Safety (IHS) Professional will be responsible for developing, recommending, and implementing programs and procedures associated with the recognition, measurement, evaluation, and control of potential health and safety hazards. The IHS Professional will provide daily industrial hygiene and safety support to programmatic and facility organizations to ensure the protection of workers, compliance with Laboratory S&H requirements, and mission success. The IHS Professional will use professional concepts and Laboratory objectives to resolve complex issues creatively. The IHS Professional will collaborate with the work force in developing solutions to complex ESH problems that require in-depth analysis of work activities and data. The IHS Professional will promote safety, security, and quality in all operations; exercises prudent fiscal and property management; promotes teamwork within the organization and across the Laboratory; promotes a positive work environment; and delivers exceptional customer service. IH&S Professional 2 ($83,900-$136,600) An IH&S Professional 2 works under limited direction; receives general instructions on new assignments. Work is evaluated upon completion to ensure objectives have been met. They demonstrate good judgment in selecting methods and techniques for obtaining solutions. They determine an approach to solutions, plans, schedules and arranges their own activities in accomplishing objectives.
IH&S Professional 3 ($101,700 - $168,200) In addition to what was outlined at the lower level, at this level the selected candidate will use professional IH concepts and Laboratory objectives to resolve complex analysis of work activities and data.

Working knowledge and application of techniques and procedures for industrial hygiene exposure assessment (both qualitative and quantitative), to include sampling and sampling techniques/instrumentation, sample analysis, and selection/implementation of controls.
Working skill in the preparation and communication of industrial hygiene/safety technical information to technical and non-technical personnel.
Working knowledge and ability to apply the hierarchy of controls to eliminate or mitigate hazards while ensuring mission success.
Working experience and skill in conducting research, investigating alternative solutions, and recommending solutions to industrial hygiene and safety related problems.
Demonstrated excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to work effectively within a team environment and provide excellent customer service.

In addition to the requirements outlined above, qualification at the higher level requires:

Education/Experience at higher level: Position requires a Bachelor’s in Science, Engineering, Industrial Hygiene, or Safety, and 8 years related experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation.
Desired Qualifications:
Broad knowledge of Laboratory organizations, operations, and activities
Experience with Laboratory ESH data collection tools and databases
Expert level knowledge in air monitoring and contamination control
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Ability to obtain and maintain an active DOE clearance
A relevant professional certification preferred (eg. CSP, CIH)

Work Location: The work location for this position is onsite and located in Los Alamos, NM. All work locations are at the discretion of management.
Position commitment:Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. Directive 206.2 - Employment with Triad requires a favorable decision by NNSA indicating employee is suitable under NNSA Supplemental Directive 206.2. No Clearance: Position does not require a security clearance. Selected candidates will be subject to drug testing and other pre-employment background checks.
