Accelorator Operations & Technology Division – Instrumentations & Controls Group (AOT-IC) is actively seeking a bright, curious, and creative software engineer to help develop new software solutions, enhance software performance, support program functionality, and champion the reliability of our systems.
Joining Los Alamos National Laboratory’s (LANL) AOT Division, Instrumentation and Controls Group (AOT-IC) you will work collaboratively with our Scientists and Engineers to maintain, support, and improve software systems critical to the safe and reliable operation of the Los Alamos Neutron Science Center (LANSCE) accelerator complex.
Your responsibilities will include analyzing and solving problems associated with the software, hardware, applications, operating systems, and all other aspects of a modern production controls system environment.
As a full-time staff engineer (scientist), you will work in a highly dynamic and collaborative environment and will be evaluated on both the quality of your work and on how well it integrates into the success of simultaneous projects around LANSCE.

This position will be filled at either the R&D Engineer 1/2 level, depending on the skills of the selected candidate. Additional job responsibilities (outlined below) will be assigned if the candidate is hired at the higher level.

Minimum Job Requirements:
R&D Engineer 1 (Salary $87,200 - $142,500)
You will use your software engineering expertise to assist in developing new capabilities to the accelerator complex. You will work collaboratively to develop technical approaches to solve engineering challenges. You will have opportunities to work on specific projects involving more than one person and assist in setting scope, schedule and budget to meet the needs of a world-class science facility.
Education/Experience Level 1: Position requires a minimum of aBachelor’s Degree in Engineering from an ABET accredited institution and 2 years of related experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation.
R&D Engineer 2 (Salary $96,100 - $159,000):
You will use your software engineering expertise to provide new capabilities to the accelerator complex. You will work autonomously to develop your own technical approaches to solving engineering challenges. You will have opportunities to lead specific projects involving more than one person and set scope, schedule and budget to meet the needs of a world class science facility.
