You will be responsible for negotiating work scope and directing a multidisciplinary team to provide input on the W87-1 program. This Interagency Peer Review program has an annual budget of approximately $5M. The position requires experience with nuclear weapon qualification and certification requirements. You be required to do frequent reporting and presenting on program status and technical findings internally and externally and frequent communication with leadership teams at Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL), Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL) and the Department of Energy (DOE). Q-18 is responsible for Systems and Design Engineering of Future Weapons Systems up to phase 3/6.3 with emphasis on improved performance, safety, producibility and agility of the future stockpile, Interagency Peer Reviews (IPRs) of Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL) Systems, and Future System and System Agnostic Design and System Engineering support to a wide range of experiments from internally fielded technology tests to hydrodynamic and subcritical experiments. Weapon Stockpile Modernization Division (Q Division) provides systems engineering and program management to develop and field qualified engineering solutions to improve the safety, reliability and security of our Nation's nuclear stockpile throughout the weapon life cycle. Q Division is responsible for leadership of activities in new LANL weapons programs as well as life extension and alternation projects. This posting is under the Associate Laboratory Directorate for Weapons Engineering (ALDW). | | | | | | What You Need Minimum Job Requirements: Nuclear Weapons Experience Detailed expert knowledge of nuclear weapon design, development, production, or stockpile requirements. Advanced knowledge of fundamental engineering and material science principles and practices. Technical Leadership Demonstrated ability in leading projects by assembling teams across multiple organizations, establishing project plans, assigning tasks to team members, and reporting progress. Proven ability to reach milestones and produce deliverables while remaining with budget constraints. Education/Experience: Position requires a Master’s Degree in Engineering from an ABET accredited institution and 12 years of related experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation. At this level a Ph.D. may be preferred. Desired Qualifications: General knowledge of the engineering authorization system and document management systems. Experience in technical report writing. Working knowledge of practices related to working with Special Nuclear Material, classified documents and parts. Current or previous experience as a derivative classifier. Sigma 15 authorization, or have the ability to obtain a Q clearance and Sigma 15 authorization.
Location: This position will be located in Los Alamos, NM.
