This position will be filled at either the Operator 3/4 level, depending on the skills of the selected candidate. Additional job responsibilities outlined below will be assigned if the candidate is hired at the higher level.
Utilities and Infrastructure is responsible for maintaining and operating all of the Laboratory's traffic and utility systems including electric, gas, sewer, steam, and water. In addition, UI maintains and manages all of the open space on site, including parking and transportation infrastructure. UI is leading the effort to achieve net-zero emissions at the Laboratory and houses the Institutional Sustainability Program. Additionally, UI oversees and manages the Laboratory's parking and transportation services.
Operator 3 ($63,200 - $99,000)
We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Electric Utility Reliability Coordinator to join our Utilities and Infrastructure Division, specifically within the Electric, Steam, and Turbine Operations group at Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL). In this role, you will be a key contributor to the operation and maintenance of LANL’s electric transmission and distribution systems, ensuring they support the Laboratory’s critical mission. You will report directly to the UI Electric, Steam, and Turbine Operations Manager and will play an integral role in developing and executing switching orders, maintaining accurate system configurations, and ensuring system reliability. This position is primarily located inside the dispatch room, which is an isolated area requiring entry access. The successful candidate must be flexible and adapt to operational conditions on short notice, which may directly impact the daily work load.
Key Responsibilities:
Operator 4 ($69,500-$110,300)
In addition to what was outlined at the lower level, at this level, the selected candidate will independently conceptualize and communicate major elements of equipment and maintenance and/or upgrade activities, prepare switching procedures, train less-experienced operators and operator trainees, and may act as a lead to review work activities of other employees.

Education/Experience at Operator 3 level: Position requires a high school diploma and 5 years of related experience or a relevant Associates Degree and 3 years of related experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation.
Education/Experience at Operator 4 level: Position requires a high school diploma and 7 years of related experience or a relevant Associates Degree and 5 years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation.

Work Location: The work location for this position is onsite and located in Los Alamos, NM. All work locations are at the discretion of management.
Position commitment: Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory.
