The Nuclear Engineering and Nonproliferation (NEN) Division at Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) is currently seeking candidates for multiple positions as Arms Control Researchers. You’ll use your creative technical skills to develop new ideas and approaches for arms control and treaty verification. The successful candidate will also support other mission areas within NEN Division. NEN works to detect and prevent the illicit development or use of nuclear weapons and improvised nuclear devices; works to reduce and limit nuclear arms and the spread of nuclear and radioactive materials, technology, and expertise; provides the capability and conducts critical, subcritical experiments, and performs fundamental physics measurements to develop and maintain the Nation’s nuclear safety and security expertise; and conducts research and development that supports the nation’s energy security Duties include, but are not limited to the following: o radiation detection approaches, o information protection, o nuclear systems risk assessment, o facility monitoring, and o integration, evaluation, and optimization of monitoring, surveillance, or sensor systems or data streams. Evaluation, demonstration, and assessment of new approaches to treaty monitoring. Development of technical capabilities to support arms control and treaty verification. Mentorship of students, postdocs, and junior staff as well as senior staff new to arms control. Leadership of projects both at LANL and in multi-laboratory collaborations

Education/Experience Position requires a Master’s Degree in Engineering from an ABET accredited institution and 12 years of related experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation. DOE Clearance This position requires a DOE Q clearance. The candidate must have the ability to obtain a Q clearance, which normally requires U.S. citizenship. Desired Qualifications: Advanced experience developing radiation detection systems. Advanced experience developing and/or evaluating radiation detection and identification algorithms. Advanced experience in data collection, processing, and analysis. Advanced experience developing and/or utilizing modeling and simulation tools. Advanced experience in project leadership and the ability to develop project plans, negotiate milestones and deliverables, as well as manage cost and budget. Experience working within established safety and quality controls for moderate to high hazard activities. Active Q Clearance Location: This position will be located in Los Alamos, NM.
