The Metrology Program and Calibration Laboratory is seeking a senior member of our quality team which is focused on metrology program coordination and oversight. This position supports implementation of Department of Energy and LANL Metrology Program requirements through the performance of technical surveys of Metrology Organizations (internal and external to LANL) and Certifying Organizations, as well as continuous improvements through the implemented and ISO/IEC 17025 accredited quality program. Quality Engineer 3 $96,100 - $159,000 We are seeking a fully functioning professional with an understanding of calibration, auditing and manufacturing plus working knowledge of other related fields. Resolves a wide range of issues in creative ways. You will actively participate in Quality Assurance and Quality Control processes and provide input to quality operations. You will contribute to the development of organizational goals and objectives. Failure to obtain results or erroneous judgments would normally have serious consequences and may require substantial expenditure of resources to correct and/or achieve project goals. You will interact with senior management and personnel, both internal and external. You will work under limited direction; and receive general instructions on new assignments. Fast paced and rapidly changing subjects and priorities that may compete to support multiple projects, programs, missions, and challenges simultaneously. You must demonstrate good judgment in selecting methods and techniques for obtaining solutions. You will plan schedules and arrange your own activities in accomplishing objectives. Quality Engineer 4 $115,500 - $194,900 In addition to what was outlined at the lower level, at this level the successful candidate will be highly knowledgeable of DOE metrology regulatory requirements hierarchy and flow down; ISO/IEC 17025; Quality Management System processes; and have calibration, testing, or inspection experience. | | | | | | What You Need Minimum Job Requirements: · Knowledge of metrology and quality concepts and principles (customer focus, nonconformance principles, continuous improvement methods, quality business processes, engineering methods, change methods, process measurements, etc.) and how these are applied for a metrology organization. · Advanced knowledge of ISO/IEC 17025 compliant Calibration Laboratory operations, practices and audits. Ability to integrate ISO/IEC 17025 requirements with Federal requirements and National Standards. · Proven record of success participating on cross-organization teams. Demonstrated capability in interpersonal and communication skills with various levels of management, state and federal regulators, stakeholders, and suppliers. · Knowledge and understanding of calibration principles (i.e. range, tolerance, uncertainty, etc.) and good measurement practices necessary to formulate technical compliance decisions. · Ability to evaluate and determine levels of risk, establish and apply graded approach plans. Additional Job Requirements for Quality Engineer 4: In addition to the requirements outlined above, qualification at the higher level requires: - Demonstrated experience in quality assurance program development and/or conducting formal assessments and/or (technical) supplier evaluations.
- Ability to perform regular domestic travel to work with subcontractors is required.
- Extensive experience supporting Metrology Program implementation with demonstrated knowledge of the Department of Energy Metrology Program requirements.
Training/Certifications: Lead Auditor qualification or ability to obtain Lead Auditor qualification. Education/Experience at lower level: Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field and a minimum of 8 years of experience or equivalent combination of education and work experience. Education/Experience at higher level: Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field and a minimum of 12 years of experience or equivalent combination of education and work experience. Desired Qualifications: Working knowledge and experience of quality assurance, regulatory, and technical documents, such as DOE Order 414.1, 10CFR830, NQA-1, DOE/NNSA weapons quality policy (NAP-401.1A), Defense Programs Business Process System (DPBPS), and the NNSA quality assurance procedure. Lead Auditor qualification or ability to obtain Lead Auditor qualification. A functioning ability to understand and interpret various physical, mechanical, and electrical documents, blueprints, drawings, specifications, and schematics. Knowledge of Production and Design Agency responsibilities, systems and components. Working knowledge of hazardous/nuclear materials safety practices.
