The position will focus on using discrete fracture network models to better understand subsurface systems including the long-term disposal of spent nuclear fuel and reservoir management. Los Alamos National Laboratory solves problems related to energy, environment, infrastructure, health, and global security concerns, and enhances national security by ensuring the safety and reliability of the U.S. nuclear stockpile. | | | | | | What You Need The successful applicant will have a background in subsurface flow and transport simulations with expertise in some or all of the following: (i) computational physics model development, (ii) reactive transport, (iii) fracture/matrix interactions and/or (iv) multiphase flow simulations. This position will require motivation to succeed in an independent work environment and the communication skills to interact with a multidisciplinary, integrated team. - Publications in refereed journals and a history of successful research in collaborative team environments
Education: A Ph.D. in a STEM field is required. The candidate must have completed all Ph.D. requirements by commencement of the appointment and be within 5 years of completion of the Ph.D. Desired Qualifications: - Experience in Discrete Fracture network modeling
- Proficiency in one of the following programming languages: Fortran, C, or C++
- Experience with Python
- Experience with using version control tools (e.g., git)
- Experience with model and data visualization using tools such as Petrel, EarthVision, ParaView or Visit
- Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE Q clearance (which typically requires US citizenship)
