Q-19 is responsible for supporting all flight integration and associated flight test efforts necessary to support the Los Alamos weapon design, qualification, and sustainment mission. Roles and responsibilities of this position will include: - Driving the development of flight qualification techniques o Identify required skillsets and support hiring o Build teams with specific capabilities to support tasks and mission o Set milestones o Execute scope o Collaborate with other leads within and external to the group - Testing o Ground testing o Flight testing o Sensors o Data acquisition o Signal processing - Knowledge of modern test techniques o IMMAT o Modal testing o Shock and Vibration testing - Analysis techniques o Closed form solutions o Numerical methods o Implicit and explicit analysis o Eigensolutions o Rigid body mechanics to include flight dynamics and mechanics - Programmatic Responsibilities o Working with Program Managers and internal/external customers to scope, plan and complete testing o Support regular reviews o Support peer review for programs outside of the group o Represent the laboratory to external customers, with presentations and reporting This posting is under the Associate Laboratory Directorate for Weapons Engineering (ALDW). | | | | | | What You Need Minimum Job Requirements: Weapons Knowledge Advanced knowledge of flight testing as associated with nuclear weapon delivery vehicles (reentry systems, cruise missiles, and airdrop ordnance), flight test vehicle design, sensor specification, data acquisition, telemetry, and post test data analysis. Engineering Experience Significant experience in one or more of the following: flight testing, weapon/system design: development, qualification, certification, assembly/production, or surveillance. Advanced experience in the application of system engineering principles, providing solutions in one or more of the following disciplines: mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, nuclear engineering, aeronautical/aerospace engineering, systems engineering. Communication Demonstrated excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills; demonstrated ability to interact effectively with all levels of Laboratory personnel/senior management, including internal and external customers, as well as experience with conflict resolution. Project Facilitation Demonstrated and proven ability to meet schedule and deliverables for multiple concurrent projects with a range of priorities. Demonstrated advanced consultative record of developing and fostering successful cross-organizational teams to solve complex problems. Demonstrated ability to work independently with minimum supervision, as well as the ability to be an effective member of a multidisciplinary team. Travel A frequent amount of travel may be required due to programmatic complexity and frequent interactions with Sandia National Laboratory (SNL) and contractors as well as National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA). Education/Experience: Position requires a Master's Degree in an Engineering field from an ABET accredited institution and 12 years of related experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation. At this level a Ph.D. may be preferred. Desired Qualifications: · Detailed knowledge of nuclear weapon systems and delivery vehicles · Familiarity with Air Force and Navy flight and test programs · Familiarity with the development of component and systems requirements and specifications for components and systems · Demonstrated technical leadership of small teams and/or developing technical strategies for organizations · Experience with specifying and designing data acquisition and instrumentation · Familiarity with engineering modeling tools · Familiarity with engineering analysis · Experience with programming languages · Knowledge of Digital Engineering and Models Based System Engineering · Understanding of NNSA and DOD qualification processes · Active Q clearance Location: This position will be located in Los Alamos, NM.
