Education/Experience: Position requires a Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited institution and 5 years related experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation. A B.S., M.S. or Ph.D., in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, is preferred. Desired Qualifications: - Experience in one or more of the following: software engineering, best practices, software quality management, data analytics, algorithms, machine learning, computational statistics, data processing, scientific datasets, data formats, data acquisition systems, instrumentation, real-time display, or TCP/IP programming
- Strong record of technical accomplishments and leadership in projects/programs directly relevant to ISR capabilities or in the application areas described above
- Experience participating to help deliver satellite hardware/subsystems,providing space-based operations support, providing ground and space based data processing, or contributing to relevant scientific research supporting ISR missions
- Proven record of success in line management in a scientific or technical organization including performance and salary management, strategic and business planning, organization and staff development, and/or successful recruitment of technical staff in a dynamic and changing environment
- Familiarity with LANL operational and administrative policies and procedures
- Formal leadership and/or management training
- Working knowledge of DOE/NNSA, DoD, NASA, and/or other government agencies dealing with verification and detection programs
- Active "Q" clearance
Work Environment: Work Location: The work location for this position is onsite and located in Los Alamos, NM. All work locations are at the discretion of management. This position is not eligible for hybrid or remote work.
Position commitment: Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. | | Where You Will WorkThe Space Data and Software Systems Group is one of six organizations in the ISR Division. Our group consists of over 70 members including scientists, R&D engineers, software developers, cybersecurity and network professionals, administrative professionals, post masters/bachelors, students, affiliates, and guests. The group is divided into six subgroups/core capabilities:
- Embedded & Flight Software Engineering
- End User Software & Operations
- Data Processing Tools & Management
- Radiation Effects & Reliability
- Space Data Application Software
- System Development, Integration & Security
Our capabilities include the development of embedded flight software, data acquisition systems, ground stations development and support for on-orbit payload operations, spacecraft simulators, space-based data processing, data analysis, and data analytics.
ISR-3 works closely with other groups that provide custom instrumentation and data processing for national security applications. Projects are executed through a close interaction between all disciplines of engineers, technicians, and scientists, which fosters a highly creative and dynamic research and development environment.

Directive 206.2 - Employment with Triad requires a favorable decision by NNSA indicating employee is suitable under NNSA Supplemental Directive 206.2. Please note that this requirement applies only to citizens of the United States. Foreign nationals are subject to a similar requirement under DOE Order 142.3A.
Clearance: Q (Position will be cleared to this level). Selected applicants will be subject to a background investigation conducted by or on behalf of the Federal Government, and must meet eligibility requirements* for access to classified matter. This position requires a Q clearance. and obtaining such clearance requires US Citizenship except in extremely rare circumstances. Dependent upon the position, additional authorization to access classified information may be required, which may or may not be available to dual citizens. Receipt of a Q clearance and additional access authorization ultimately is a decision of the Federal Government and not of Triad.
*Eligibility requirements: To obtain a clearance, an individual must be at least 18 years of age; U.S. citizenship is required except in very limited circumstances. See DOE Order 472.2 for additional information. No Clearance: Position does not require a security clearance. Selected candidates will be subject to drug testing and other pre-employment background checks.
New-Employment Drug Test: The Laboratory requires successful applicants to complete a new-employment drug test and maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing. Although New Mexico and other states have legalized the use of marijuana, use and possession of marijuana remain illegal under federal law. A positive drug test for marijuana will result in termination of employment, even if the use was pre-offer. Regular position: Term status Laboratory employees applying for regular-status positions are converted to regular status.

Incentive Compensation Program: Position is eligible to participate in the Triad Incentive Compensation Program. You must be in an eligible position for a minimum of 3 months, before July 1st and remain in an eligible position as of the end of the fiscal year, September 30th. The annual distribution is prorated based on the number of months in the eligible position.
