The successful candidate will: Serve in a lead role representing radiological engineering and the Radiation Protection Programs organization in the radiological design of new and modified facilities, equipment, and activities to ensure that designs meet regulatory and laboratory radiological protection requirements; Ensure that radiation protection concepts and policies are incorporated into Laboratory designs in order to protect workers, the public, and the environment; Provide facility, equipment, and system design input required to achieve ALARA; and Perform shielding, dose, and ALARA cost-benefit analyses using radiation transport codes and other methods.
| | | | | | What You Need Minimum Job Requirements: Knowledge of the technical principles, theories, concepts, and techniques of health physics, including radiological engineering processes; Experience in conducting research, investigating alternative solutions, and recommending solutions on problems affecting radiological safety/protection; Ability to conceptualize and communicate fundamental elements of radiological safety/protection to both technical and non-technical personnel; Advanced experience in the development and presentation of radiological safety/protection reports; Experience with dose optimization (ALARA) processes; Excellent written and verbal communication skills; Demonstrated experience with a variety of radiological controls and the surveillance of related safety measures and requirements; Demonstrated ability to provide strong customer support to projects; Demonstrated ability to work independently and in a team environment; and Working knowledge of legal requirements affecting radiological safety/protection.
Education/Experience: Position requires a Bachelor’s Degree in Health Physics, Nuclear Engineering, Physical Science, and 2 years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation. Desired Qualifications: MS degree in Health Physics, Nuclear Engineering, or related discipline Experience working with Monte Carlo transport codes (e.g., MCNP) Working knowledge of health physics in plutonium facilities, accelerator facilities, or research and development settings Working knowledge of computational fluid dynamics codes (e.g., Fluent) Familiarity with coding programs/environments ABHP Certification or progress towards an ABHP Certification
