The aim of the project is to study the separation behavior of high-concentration constituent elements and low-concentration impurities in solutions under external forces and/or at high temperatures. Current fields of interest for the project are the physical, chemical, and electrical manipulation of selective dissolved ions and impurities in aqueous fluids, and selective molecular species in gas mixtures. Specific target applications include supercritical water processes, such as desalination and oxidation, and direct air capture of CO2. The successful candidate will be expected to work closely with other experimental and theoretical scientists with diverse backgrounds. There will be extensive opportunities to work in a wide range of areas and to innovate. Experience in separation experimentation, electrical measurements, materials characterization, non-destructive testing, building complex experimental setups, sensor development, spectroscopic techniques, such as impedance spectroscopy and dielectric spectroscopy, will be considered as important assets. Education/Experience: Candidates must have completed all PhD requirements by commencement of the appointment and must be within the last five years of completion of the PhD, specializing in chemistry, chemical engineering, physics, applied physics, materials science, electrical engineering, or a related field.
