The research will focus on conducting experiments that help us understand the ability of antenna to generate plasma waves in space. You will conduct plasma physics experiments in collaboration with the University of California Los Angeles. Your job duties will include running the 180E Inductively Coupled Plasma Device at UCLA, fabricating novel antenna for the experiment, planning and conducting experiments on whistler wave generation, and data analysis. These results will be compared to analytical and numerical models to help understand the underlying physics.
| | | | | | What You Need Minimum Job Requirements: Some background in plasma physics, including at least one undergraduate level class and some laboratory experience is preferred. Both a theoretical and practical knowledge of electrical circuits. Practical laboratory skills including data acquisition, soldering, and using oscilloscopes.
Education/Experience: A B.S. from an accredited Bachelor’s Degree program in Physics, or related technical field with end admitted or active in a graduate program with cumulative GPA of at least a 3.2 on a 4.0 scale (or equivalent). Desired Qualifications: Graduate level knowledge of plasmas physics, especially related to wave generation in a plasma. Knowledge of high frequency (RF) electronics.
Location: This position will be located in Los Alamos, NM. However, this involves a collaboration with UCLA, and a significant amount of the work and the applicant's time will be spent there.
