The Weapon Product Definition (W-11) Group is looking for a mechanical designer to join our team as a design definition full time checker. The position requires a range of expertise in 3D Computer Aided Design, hardware design, fabrication, Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T), and engineering concepts. You will work with weapon engineers, designers, and management to ensure product definition release from W-11 meets requirements and design standards. The successful candidate must also have demonstrated extensive experience with Creo CAD software and PDMLink.

Professional Experience: Intermediate to Advanced understanding of:
Computer Aided Design (CAD) Experience in with mechanical computer aided design, manufacturing, inspection, assembly, and testing. Experience checking Creo models and drawings for form, fit, and function and Models Based Definition (MBD). Experience Conducting tolerance and stack analyses as well as compliance with most recent design standards. Proven mechanical design experience for ensuring product definition meets requirements as well as for producibility while reducing rejected products. Knowledge and experience with MBD, to recommend best practices or methods of improvement while maintaining compliance with NNSA, LANL, and industry standards. Proven experience working with Creo 3D CAD software, PDMLink Product Lifecycle Management (PLM), GD&T, and tolerance stack-up analysis software.
Design Standards Knowledge in the application of ASME Y14 standards, with emphasis on Y14.5 - 2009 and Y14.41 MBD. Experience with developing and interpreting 3D CAD models standards, practices, and procedures used for conveying design intent internally and to other organizations within the National Security Enterprise (NSE). Knowledge of hardware fabrication, inspection, and assembly processes. Experience with weapon-system configuration management workflows for authorization, review, release, and distribution of models, drawings, specifications, and related product definition.
Communication and Teamwork Demonstrated ability to work on multiple tasks for a variety of customers to ensure product definition meets requirements and design intent. Proven experience leading reviews for design, manufacture, assembly, and tests. Demonstrated effective and efficient written and verbal communication skills. Record of developing constructive, cooperative working relationships, and supporting teams consisting of engineers, physicists, scientists, technologists, and technicians in the development of products.
Engineering Technologist 3
At this level, professional experience of all the categories listed above should be at the advanced level. May also be expected to guide teams consisting of staff from diverse backgrounds through design iterations to address potential engineering defects. May supervise aspects of work of others and performs own work with minimal direction. Completed work is reviewed from the expectation of expert results without appreciable direction. Involved with technical solutions to complex and/or unique problems, which require the regular use of ingenuity, creativity and independence. Solutions are frequently original and impact the outcome of the entire project. Will be asked to train junior staff on the details of Models Based Definition and GD&T.
Education/Experience at Level 2: Position requires a bachelor’s degree in engineering technology, Science, Math or related degree and 5 years of directly related experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation.
Education/Experience at Level 3: Position requires a Bachelor’ Degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology Science, Math or related degree from an accredited institution and 8 years of directly related experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation. - Experience in draft/design work in both weapons and non-weapons arenas.
- Experience in the development and implementation of organizational design and/or drafting standards.
- Previous model/drawing checking experience in the Nuclear Security Enterprise
- Active Q clearance
