The Earth Systems Observation Group (EES-14) in the Earth and Environmental Sciences (EES) Division at Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) has an immediate opening for two postdoctoral research associates with experience experimentally exploring subsurface gas storage (carbon dioxide, hydrogen, methane, etc.). You will work as part of a team investigating transport, reaction and geochemistry of gases at subsurface reservoir conditions for application to key LANL missions, including energy security. Candidates will work collaboratively with a team of scientists and should bring their enthusiasm for laboratory work and creative problem solving/innovation. You will be expected to publish results in high-impact peer-reviewed journals and present your work at conferences. The term of the appointment is two (2) years, with the option to extend to a third year depending on performance and funding availability. | | | | | | What You Need Minimum Job Requirements: Education: Candidates must have received a Ph.D. within the last five years in a STEM field, or will have completed all Ph.D. requirements by commencement of appointment. Desired Qualifications: Experience analyzing, interpreting, and/or modeling fluid-solid geochemical reactions (thermodynamics and kinetics) Experience characterizing geochemical reactions by applying microscopic/spectroscopic techniques (SEM, Raman spectroscopy, etc.) to observe reaction products Experience designing and running experiments at elevated temperature and pressure conditions Experience with triaxial coreflood systems to measure rock fracture processes and fluid flow through fractures Enthusiasm for new science and collaborating across disciplines The ability to work through problems using innovation/creative problem solving Experience or exposure to proposal development and writing
