Nuclear facility engineers integrate with programmatic, operations, maintenance, document control, project management personnel to ensure safety basis nuclear facility requirements are met in a way that allows for safe and compliant accomplishment of LANL mission. Identifies and/or leads safety basis activities within nuclear and non-nuclear facilities. Nuclear Facilities Engineer Level 1 ($87,200 - $142,500) Nuclear Facilities Engineer [Safety Basis Analyst] 1 will work with nuclear and non-nuclear facility systems and accepted methods for mitigation of risk from hazardous materials or facilities. The successful candidate will be expected to perform the following duties of this position, but are not necessarily limited to hazard identification, hazard analysis, facility hazard categorization, accident analysis, selection of controls, and development of associated safety basis documents including Unreviewed Safety Question Determinations, documented safety analysis, technical safety requirements, safety assessment documents, facility safety plans, and facility safety analysis Nuclear Facilities Engineer Level 2 ($96,100 -$159,000) In addition to what was outlined at the lower level, at this level Nuclear Facilities Engineer [Safety Basis Analyst] 2, at this level, the primary duties of this position include interpretation of plant processes for safety basis impact from schematics, procedures, verbal and written descriptions; performing qualitative and quantitative hazard analyses; performing fault-tree and event-tree analyses of complex engineered systems; quantifying significant accident sequences; and performing consequence analyses and performing Unreviewed Safety Questions Determinations. | | | | | | What You Need Minimum Job Requirements: Ability to apply standard and specialized engineering and scientific, principles, theories, concepts, and techniques to contribute to risk and hazard analyses for nuclear and non-nuclear facilities Ability to understand and interpret various physical, mechanical, and electrical documents, blueprints, drawings, and schematics Familiarity with nuclear and non-nuclear facility systems and accepted methods for mitigation of risks from hazardous materials of facilities Under instruction, contributes to the preparation and presentation of safety basis documents This position is subject to DOE Order 426.2, Personnel Section, Training, and Qualification Requirements for DOE Nuclear Facilities, which establishes entry-level requirements to ensure candidates selected for specific positions can successfully perform the requirements of the job. Education/Experience at lower level: Position requires a bachelor’s degree in Engineering from an ABET-accredited college or university and 0 to 2 years of practical work experience necessary to perform the responsibilities outlined above. Location: This position will be located in Los Alamos, NM with the potential for a hybrid work arrangement (partially onsite/partially offsite) from a location within 2 hours ground commute of this location. Reporting onsite will be periodically required. Hybrid is at the discretion of management and can change at any time with appropriate notice.
