This position will be filled at either the Waste Management Coordinator 2 or 3 level, depending on the skills of the selected candidate.  Additional job responsibilities (outlined below) will be assigned if the candidate is hired at the higher level.

Waste Management-Waste Generator Services is looking for highly motivated individuals to serve as Waste Management Coordinators 2 or 3 to join our TA-55 team.

Waste Management Coordinator 2 ($85,900 - $139,900)

Waste Management Coordinator 3 ($104,100 - $172,200)
In addition to what was outlined at the lower level, at this level candidates will take on greater leadership and strategic responsibilities, ensuring the laboratory’s waste management program operates at peak efficiency and compliance. In addition to overseeing the proper storage, handling, characterization, packaging, and transportation of hazardous, radioactive, and mixed waste, you will assist efforts to improve waste management processes, develop best practices, and provide technical guidance to teams across the organization.
Additionally, this role may involve supporting projects related to waste minimization, sustainability initiatives, and process improvements to align with the laboratory’s mission of scientific excellence and environmental responsibility. Strong leadership skills will be essential, as this individual will mentor staff, collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, and drive innovation in waste management strategies.

• Understanding of work hazards, safety practices, operating configurations, security, environment and quality objectives and requirements.
• Knowledge of and experience with handling, characterizing, packaging, and/or transporting solid, liquid, hazardous, radioactive, and/or mixed wastes
• Practical work experience with a laboratory or high hazard facility/environment that generated multiple waste types
• Skill to communicate elements of waste management to technical and non-technical personnel, interact, and work with internal customers as well as with Federal, State, and local agencies.
• Knowledge or training per DOT 49 CFR as a Basic Hazardous Materials Shipper and Basic Radioactive Materials Shipper or Certified per DOT 49 CFR as an Advanced Hazardous Materials Shipper and Advanced Radioactive Materials Shipper or Certified per DOT 49 CFR as an Advanced Mixed Waste Shipper
• Knowledge and experience in managing satellite accumulation areas (SAAs), central accumulation areas (CAAs), PCB storage areas, universal waste (UW) areas, and radioactive staging/storage areas including knowledge of chemical storage, segregation, and handling
• Work experience with a laboratory or R&D plant/facility that generated multiple waste types

• Demonstrated commitment to implementing safety, security, environment and quality objectives and requirements
• Advanced work experience with a laboratory or high hazard facility/environment that generated multiple waste types
• Advanced knowledge of applicable local, state, and federal laws and regulations relating to the handling and management of solid, liquid, hazardous, radioactive, and/or mixed wastes
• Ability to effectively communicate, interact, and work with internal customers as well as with Federal, State, and local agencies
• Advanced experience or training per DOT 49 CFR as a Basic Hazardous Materials Shipper and Basic Radioactive Materials Shipper or Certified per DOT 49 CFR as an Advanced Hazardous Materials Shipper and Advanced Radioactive Materials Shipper or Certified per DOT 49 CFR as an Advanced Mixed Waste Shipper
• Advanced knowledge of and experience with handling, characterizing, packaging, and/or transporting solid, liquid, hazardous, radioactive, and/or mixed wastes
• Advanced knowledge and experience in managing satellite accumulation areas (SAAs), central accumulation areas (CAAs), PCB storage areas, universal waste (UW) areas, and radioactive staging/storage areas including knowledge of chemical storage, segregation, and handling
• Advanced experience and knowledge communicating major elements of waste management processes, policies, and procedures to technical and non-technical personnel

• Active or transferable Q clearance and HRP
• Successful experience in coordinating cradle to grave management and disposition of non-hazardous, hazardous, chemical, and radioactive wastes
• Knowledge of LANL’s organizational structure, technical areas, and facilities
• Experience and knowledge of LANL’s waste management policies, practices, and procedures\
• Current or previous qualification as a waste professional in a Department of Energy facility
• Chemical lab packing experience
  

Work Location: The work location for this position is onsite and located in Los Alamos, NM. All work locations are at the discretion of management.

Work Schedule: This position may/will require 24/7 coverage, which could/will involve working a shift/weekend schedule. Employees may be eligible for shift differential pay when assigned by their manager. Shift/weekend assignments are at the discretion of the manager.

Position commitment: Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. If an employee has not served the time required, they may only apply for Laboratory jobs with the documented approval of their Division Leader. The position commitment for this position is 1 year.

• While the posted salary range for this position is broad, it is highly unusual for selected applicants to be hired at the top end of the range and more common for selected candidates to grow into the full salary band over time.

Where You Will Work

Clearance: Q (Position will be cleared to this level).  Selected applicants will be subject to a background investigation conducted by or on behalf of the Federal Government, and must meet eligibility requirements* for access to classified matter. This position requires a Q clearance. and obtaining such clearance requires US Citizenship except in extremely rare circumstances. Dependent upon the position, additional authorization to access classified information may be required, which may or may not be available to dual citizens.  Receipt of a Q clearance and additional access authorization ultimately is a decision of the Federal Government and not of Triad.

*Eligibility requirements:  To obtain a clearance, an individual must be at least 18 years of age; U.S. citizenship is required except in very limited circumstances. See DOE Order 472.2 for additional information.

HRP: This position is subject to the requirements of the DOE Human Reliability Program as specified in 10 Code of Federal Regulation, Part 712, §712.11. These requirements include on going drug and alcohol testing, as well as periodic medical and psychological evaluations.
