This team is one of three Infrastructure Services teams within the Software and Applications Engineering Division (SAE). This group provides database, middleware, and application administration, as well as reporting, analytics, and application security services for LANL business systems and LANL mission related systems. These systems support core business services, security, manufacturing, nuclear waste processing, data warehousing, training, facilities management, etc. This team is involved in the entire software lifecycle of the systems they support. Individuals who appreciate challenges, variety and have expertise in either Oracle database or Middle tier technologies who want to branch out and learn the complementary platforms or technologies are encouraged to apply. This position will be filled at the Database Administrator 4 level Database and Middle Tier Administrator 4 ($103,500 - $172,800) The successful candidate will be required to perform the following tasks: Provide expert level knowledge and operational support for Oracle databases, and/or middle tier applications including installation, configuration, and administration. Individuals who want to expand their skillsets across middleware AND database administration are encouraged. Own, track, and resolve database, middle-tier, application-tier, network, and F5 Local Traffic Manager (LTM) related troubleshooting, incidents, and requests Effectively communicate and mentor colleagues within the Infrastructure Services teams, SAE development groups, SAE and NIE divisions and LANL at large - this includes the ability to translate technical concepts to customers and non-technical audiences Establish and maintain security and integrity controls within the database, mid-tier and applications Develop and maintain documentation as it relates to database, middle-tier, application tier and application security environments Participate in an on-call rotation to support after hour issues and planned work Collaborate and apply full understanding of the Middle-Tier and/or Oracle Database and Administration fields plus working knowledge of other related IT fields, such as software engineering, system administration, and networking to meet customer needs
| | | | | | What You Need Minimum Job Requirements: Expert level knowledge of Oracle Relational Database management concepts - Backup, recovery, monitoring, tuning, troubleshooting, diagnosing, patching, design on Linux or similar OS (Including production and nonproduction environments) and or expertise in Oracle and other vendor middleware, business intelligence and analytics administration Experience or familiarity with the concepts of F5 BIG-IP LTM or some other application delivery controller technology Expertise with Linux, Unix, and/or Windows Virtual Machines Expert level knowledge of SQL, PL/SQL, and/or Linux shell scripting, Powershell, Python or other relevant scripting languages Expert level knowledge of core security concepts such as least privilege, escalation, defense in depth, authentication/authorization. Strong knowledge of core networking concepts and troubleshooting. Developing and maintaining security and integrity controls within Oracle database systems and middle tier platforms Assisting with the definition and implementation of standards, operational support procedures and enhancements to security, performance and reliability for Oracle databases Working independently to determine the approach and manage own activities in accomplishing objectives Providing limited technical direction and/or coordinating activities of other less experienced personnel and student interns Knowledge of software development methodologies, tools, and processes Ability to partner with customers, and translate technical terms to layperson's terms and present them to audiences outside of the division Ability to review and understand end-to-end work processes
Education/Experience: Position typically requires a bachelor's degree in a relevant field and 12 years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Preferably a BS or MS in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, MIS or other technical degree with computer emphasis Desired Qualifications: Experience administering Oracle databases on Windows Familiarity with the Oracle Advanced Security Options Familiarity using OEM, or other COTS products such as Toad, for Oracle database administration and automation Familiarity with NFS and ASM storage Familiarity with Oracle Access Manager (OAM) administration or concepts Familiarity with Apache Tomcat, Sprintboot and/or Kubernetes/Containers Location: This position will be located in Los Alamos, NM with the potential for teleworking from a location within 2 hours ground commute of this location. Reporting onsite will be periodically required. Telework is at the discretion of management and can change at any time with appropriate notice.
