For this position, you will primarily provide support for our Process Materials team, a key responsibility of the PT-5 Product Engineering group. This position will require knowledge and management of production material selection and development to ensure materials needed for plutonium pit production are procured timely to the appropriate quality level. Applicants should have experience in identifying and testing critical material characteristics to certify items used in production. In addition to managing process materials, this role will also support pit production as a product engineer on one of the following teams: Pyrochemistry, Casting, Machining, Assembly, and Inspection.

Engineering: Demonstrated/thorough/advanced knowledge of and experience in engineering disciplines such as mechanical, electrical, nuclear, chemical, or industrial.
Manufacturing: Experience working in production or manufacturing, nuclear experience is preferred.
Initiative & Work Ethic: Willingness and enthusiasm to take initiative and learn in a highly supportive environment. Proactive in asking questions to learn and perform work. Demonstrated use of adaptive, creative, and collaborative approaches to solve problems, overcome obstacles, and handle uncertainty. Passion for the work and the mission.
Quality Knowledge: Demonstrated/thorough knowledge of, and experience in, conducting troubleshooting, investigating alternative solutions, and recommending solutions on problems affecting quality assurance using processes such as root cause analysis or others. Provide thorough and accurate documentation of technical and/or statistical reports and ensure quality assurance compliance.
Quality Standards: Demonstrated/thorough knowledge of and experience using national consensus standards of quality assurance, such as ASME, ISO, IPC, ANSI/ASME, AS9100, NQA-1, and NAP 401.1A, etc. Thorough/advanced knowledge creating processes and procedures for use by internal or external personnel.
Education and Experience: Position requires a Master’s Degree in Engineering from an accredited institution and 6 years of related experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation.
DOE Order 426.2: Requires a Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering or a related science, 2 years of job-related experience, and 1 year of nuclear experience; this can be obtained through the 1-year onsite NET (New Employee Training) Academy.
Desired Qualifications:
Demonstrated knowledge or experience working in a manufacturing or production organization requiring implementation of defined manufacturing, testing, and quality requirements. Knowledge and experience with system and subsystem qualification testing and/or analysis. Demonstrated knowledge of the Conduct of Operations. Existing DOE “Q” clearance (or similar). Work Environment:
Day-to-day activities take place in an office environment though candidates would need the ability to work near sources of ionizing and non-ionizing radiation and the ability to wear protective clothing as necessary.
Work Location: The work location for this position is onsite and located in Los Alamos, NM. All work locations are at the discretion of management.
Position commitment: Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. HRP: This position is subject to the requirements of the DOE Human Reliability Program as specified in 10 Code of Federal Regulation, Part 712, §712.11. These requirements include on going drug and alcohol testing, as well as periodic medical and psychological evaluations.
426.2: This position is subject to DOE Order 426.2, Personnel Selection, Training, and Qualification Requirements for DOE Nuclear Facilities, which establishes entry-level requirements to ensure candidates selected for specific positions can successfully perform the requirements of the job.
