The Weapons Research Services (WRS) Division’s Weapons Mission Technology (WMT) group is seeking a computer scientist who will research, analyze, design, develop, implement, and manage systems for LANL’s Weapons mission software suite of tools and technologies. Scientist 2 ($96,100-$159,000) As a Scientist 2, you will support LANL’s Weapons mission software toolsets, it is necessary to develop creative and innovative software solutions with a focus on large records collections to enable scientists and engineers to easily locate, analyze, and take action on the data across a full array of systems. The WMT group is tasked with customizing, configuring, and maintaining large-scale implementations of product lifecycle and content management software packages. As part of the team, you will collaborate to analyze and identify user requirements, determine system features and functionality, perform system testing, verification, validation, and implement the software solutions necessary to support the mission and advance the capabilities of the programs, in accordance and while adhering to scientific and information technology policies, programs, procedures and practices. Scientist 3 ($115,500-$194,900) In addition to what was outlined in the Scientist 2 position, additional duties will include providing leadership for complex technical projects, mentoring team members, and managing the integrations of developed solutions into production. Leadership activities will include collaborations with external DOE partners, guidance on new software features and emerging technologies, and presenting topics at national technical conferences and workshops. | | | | | | What You Need Minimum Job Requirements: Technical Knowledge: For this role, you will need knowledge and experience in computer programming including the ability to write, build, and deploy in standard programming languages, such as, Java, C, and/or Python. This includes a thorough understanding of principles of scientific integrity. You must have the ability to maintain state-of-the-art technical expertise and knowledge within discipline, and develop new skills in related disciplines. Software Development: The position will require experience in the software development and sustainment lifecycle to include design, development, modification, testing, debugging, evaluation of software to meet technical and functional requirements, maintenance, and decommissioning of software. Experience contributing to the development of technical standards. Software Engineering: You will need knowledge of software engineering, research, design, and development methodologies, tools and processes, including software development methodology framework, source code control, application development tools and techniques, database design, development and management, programming languages, and component integration. Experience with customizing Commercial-off-the-Shelf (COTS) applications and configuring graphical user interfaces (GUI). Systems Engineering: This position requires knowledge and experience with hardware and operating systems including system architectures, network infrastructures, and client server principles. Additional Job Requirements for Scientist 3: In addition to the requirements outlined above, qualification at the higher level requires: Leadership: You will need experience leading technical decision-making at the task level within a project, making decisions and/or recommendations that influence the achievement of key programmatic objectives, and the ability to mentor junior staff. Education/Experience: Scientist 2 level: Position requires a Bachelor’s degree in a STEM field from an accredited college or university and four (4) years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the position. Scientist 3 level: Position requires a Master’s degree in a STEM field from an accredited college or university and six (6) years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the position. Desired Qualifications: Applications: Experience in administration, configuration, and customization in one or more of the following COTS software packages: PTC Windchill PDMLink, PTC Creo Parametric, IBM Engineering Requirements Management DOORS Classic or DOORS Next Generation, OpenText Documentum, QuarkXPress, MarkLogic, and/or Panopto. Product Management: Working knowledge in one or more of the following areas: Product Data Management (PDM), Product Lifecycle Management (PLM), Manufacturing Data Management (MPM), Configuration Management, Content Management, and/or Requirements Management. Working knowledge with Mechanical Computer-Aided Design (MCAD) and/or Electrical Computer-Aided Design (ECAD) tools. Databases and Languages: Experience in one or more of the following databases: Mongo, Oracle, MySQL/MariaDB, NoSQL, PostGresSQL, ElasicSearch, M$SQL Server, SQLLiteetc. Experience in one or more of the following scripting languages: Perl, Bash, Javascript, and/or markup languages: HTML, XML, JSON, CSS. Working knowledge of Application Program Interface (API) frameworks and/or REST services. Familiarity with Unified Modeling Language (UML) and/or Systems Modeling Language (SysML). Clearance: This position requires the ability to obtain a DOE Q clearance, which typically requires US citizenship.
